HomeFirst      (Interfaith Housing and Family Services) of Union County
HomeFirst provides shelter, meals, and comprehensive support to families without homes. Twice a year, Willow Grove hosts homeless families for one week at a time, as they seek housing, jobs and other resources.  We need many hands during daily shifts to set up rooms, help cook and serve dinner, sleep overnight, set up breakfast, and  transport to showers or the laundromat.   HomeFirst is part of the national Family Promise network.

International Dinner
In March we have our Annual International Dinner.  It is a feast for the pallet and the ear.  Each year local musical groups provide inspiring vocal and instrumental music as well as dance.  The featured musical groups have included The Music from China Youth Orchestra, and  the Chinese American Music Ensemble (CAME).  After listening to moving music, people go  downstairs to Ryno Hall to feast on food from around the world.  There is an array of ethnic specialties, including Italian, Danish, Chinese, German, Irish, Greek, Korean, Scottish, English, West Indian and Polish.  Food is prepared by members and friends of Willow Grove Church. Each person received a passport, making their way around the room and around the world.

Each year this event raises hundreds of dollars for local and international hunger and disaster relief agencies.  In the past we have raised funds for the following organizations
Heifer Project International                   http://www.heifer.org/
Community Food Bank of NJ                www.njfoodbank.org

Peacemaking Offering
On the first Sunday in October we celebrate World Communion Sunday and invite people to give to The Peacemaking Offering.  It was created in 1980 to support the efforts of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to live out a deeper commitment to peacemaking as part of our faithfulness to God.  Each congregation is encouraged to retain 25 percent of the Offering it receives to use for local ministries of peacemaking within the church and its community. Twenty-five percent is used by presbyteries and synods, and 50 percent is used by the General Assembly ministries through the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program.
Souper Bowl Of Caring
On the first Sunday of February, the Youth Group collects a special offering on Super Bowl Sunday to call attention to the need for food, even a bowl of soup, of many people in our country.  The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national youth led event that started in a Presbyterian church in 1990.
