Journeys Through Revelation: Apocalyptic Hope for Today   Part 3

Rev. Cynthia Cochran-Carney, Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, Scotch Plains, New Jersey

As we continue our journey through the book of Revelation, we come to chapters 4 and 5.  Up until now this letter has focused on realities of seven churches, seven communities of early Christians whom John is addressing as theologian, poet and pastor.  The actions are grounded in real geographical places on earth.  John is sitting on the Isle of Patmos.  The seven churches are places in Asia Minor now known as Turkey.

Journeys Through Revelation: Apocalyptic Hope for Today   Part 2

Rev. Cynthia Cochran-Carney, Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, Scotch Plains, New Jersey

I’m aware that this weekend our country will honor the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will observe this moment with a cloud hanging over us, the cloud of an attack on a Congresswoman that left six dead, including a nine-year-old girl who was committed to creating a better world. This attack on one of our nation’s brightest leaders reminds us of the darkness that is present in the world. It was a darkness that Dr. King testified against with words and with deeds.

Rev. Cynthia Cochran-Carney, Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, Scotch Plains, New Jersey

Isaiah 60:1-9, Matthew 2:1-12

Elder Maryjane Finne, guest preacher, Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, Scotch Plains, New Jersey

Sometimes we are called upon to give an account of what we believe, often to those who are either skeptical or just plain unaware of the significance of Jesus Christ for their own lives.  Matthew’s story of the magi, which introduces his gospel, is a gospel in miniature, that we can share.

Sunday Mornings

10:00 am Worship Service for all ages with Nursery Care, and pew activity materials for young children; Sunday School for children and youth begins after the message for young disciples.
Next SundayFebruary 5 - Join us for worship as we draw close to God and each other.  Pastor Cynthia will reflect on the themes of healing and wholeness based on the passage in Mark where Jesus heals Peter's mother-in-law.  What kinds of healing have you experienced in your life - physical, emotional, spiritual?  What does this story mean today when we are worried about our own health or the health of those we love?  How do we see God in the midst of disease and suffering?  The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be celebrated.  All are welcome to the table to participate.
