These classes will study the book of Revelation, led by our pastor, the Rev. Cynthia Cochran-Carney and Elder Bonnie Ruggiero. The primary resource for the study will be "Journeys Through Revelation: Apocalyptic Hope for Today" by Barbara Rossing. This resource is published by Presbyterian Women. Bonnie attended the training for this resource at Stony Point Presbyterian Conference Center last spring.
What comes to mind when many people think of the book of Revelation are scary images, the four horsemen come to unleash destruction, mysterious numbers like 666, and the end-time battle of Armageddon. An enormous industry has marketed frightening images from Revelation, leaving many intimidated by this amazing and often misunderstood book.
Although it contains mysterious symbolism, Revelation is ultimately a book of hope that has sustained people throughout history. It is a wonderfully faith-centered book, full of worship and praise. The class will discuss the different levels of meaning and symbolism. |
